The Heart + Halide Photo Co. Photography Experience
1.
RESERVE YOUR DATE
Booking starts with a simple conversation. We’ll talk about your family, how your days usually unfold, and what life looks like right now. Planning isn’t about perfect outfits or a spotless house; it’s about understanding how you spend time together. A non-refundable retainer reserves your date in my calendar. The balance is due 1 week before your session.
2.
LOCATION + STYLING
After you book, I’ll take time to get to know you and how your family actually moves through life together. We’ll talk about what you enjoy, what feels natural, and what kind of experience you want this to be. In-home or on location, where we shoot should be meaningful to you. I’m happy to offer wardrobe guidance that feels simple, comfortable, and true to you. No overthinking required.
3.
SHOOT DAY
Our time together is all about you and your family. I’ll offer gentle direction when it helps, but most of the session is about letting things happen naturally. It may take a few minutes to warm up, but you don’t need to perform or worry about the camera. This is your time to spend together the way you normally would: talking, playing, holding your kids close. Depending on which collection you choose, sessions last from 1-3 hours.
4.
YOUR PHOTOS
You can expect your full gallery of hand-edited images about 2 to 4 weeks after your session. When your images are ready, you’ll receive an e-mail link to access your online gallery, where you can download your images and order professional prints and heirloom keepsakes.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
I offer in-home or on-location storytelling sessions for family, maternity, newborn, and motherhood that focus on real connection and ordinary everyday moments. These sessions are designed to feel relaxed, intentional, and true to you and your family.
Newborn sessions take place in-home and follow the same approach to allow space for rest, feeding, and real life with a new baby. -
I photograph families throughout Clarksville, TN and the surrounding areas, including Fort Campbell and nearby communities. Sessions can happen in your home, in a place you already love, or outdoors where your family naturally spends time. Wherever it is, it should be meaningful and important to you. If travel beyond the immediate area is involved, I’ll always talk through logistics and any additional fees ahead of time. Some of my favorite sessions happen right at home, where life is already unfolding.
-
If shooting outdoors, most sessions are scheduled in the late afternoon or early evening when the light feels soft and natural, or occasionally in the morning at sunrise if that better suits you or your family. I’ll guide you on timing based on the season, your kids’ routines, and what will feel most realistic for your day. The goal is not perfect light at the expense of everyone’s sanity. It’s choosing a time that works for you and allows life to happen naturally.
-
Styling is simple and supportive, not overwhelming. I’ll help you think through what photographs well, how pieces can work together, and how to stay true to yourselves. Planning is less about buying new outfits and more about choosing clothes you feel comfortable moving and living in. I’m always happy to offer guidance, but nothing is overly styled or forced. The goal is for you to look like yourselves, just thoughtfully pulled together.
-
I don’t offer mini sessions for family storytelling work. Time is an important part of allowing kids to settle in and moments to unfold naturally. Short sessions tend to feel rushed and don’t leave room for the kind of candid images I’m known for. If you’re worried about kids behaving - don’t. Toddlers and babies usually do great because they’re not being asked to sit still and say cheese. They will be leading the session and engaged playing or snuggling with you or interacting with nature.
I expect kids to be kids; I’m not here to pose them into stiff smiles. Some of the best photos happen when children are allowed to show their true personalities through movement and play. -
This comes up all the time, and it’s okay. My sessions are not about posing or smiling at the camera. Most of the time, dads end up surprised by how easy it feels despite having reservations going in. The focus is on being together, not performing. Breaks are always fine, and if he only wants to be a part of some, we can make that work.
However, I do offer motherhood sessions as well where we can beautifully document your story with you and your children. -
Absolutely. If your family has something you love doing together, that’s often the best place to start. Whether it’s a slow morning at home, bedtime routines, playing outside, or something else meaningful to your family, we’ll build the session around that. These sessions are collaborative and shaped by your real life, not a preset formula.
-
Film slows everything down and allows me to be more intentional with how I photograph you. It becomes part of how your story is told, not just how it’s captured. Film has a softness and texture that digital work cannot fully replicate and it pairs beautifully with documentary style moments.
-
Yes, you’ll have at least one image where everyone is looking toward the camera. After that, the focus shifts to interaction and connection. If you’re looking for a gallery full of posed, traditional portraits, I may not be the best fit. But if you want images that feel honest and lived-in, you’re in the right place.
-
For wardrobe inspiration - absolutely! However, I don’t photograph from Pinterest boards. If you’re here, you’re interested in hiring me because you connect with my work and my perspective. I’m here to capture your family, not to copy another photographer’s work.
-
I’m happy to shoot in the rain if you are. If it’s unsafe or storming, we’ll reschedule. Otherwise, moody skies and drizzle can add something special to your photos.
-
As soon as you can. I only take on a limited number of sessions each month to keep my workload balanced and give every family - including mine - the attention they deserve.
-
Turnaround is usually 2–4 weeks.* Your images go through several culls and 2 rounds of edits. Film takes up to 2 weeks to be developed, scanned, and edited. I take care with editing to make sure every image is consistent and true to your story. You’ll receive a gallery link where you can view and download your photos once they’re ready. Sneak peeks will be shared on Instagram so be sure to follow @heartandhalidephotoco
*Collections including heirloom items and/or film have a turnaround of 4-8 weeks.
-
Yes. Your photographs are meant to live in your hands and in your home, not just on a screen. I offer professionally printed heirloom artwork including fine art prints, custom albums, and gallery wall designs so your images can become part of your everyday life.
-
Yes. Preserving your family’s memories shouldn’t feel out of reach. I offer flexible payment plans because I believe photographs like these deserve to be kept, printed, and passed down.
